Around Camelford
At Slaughter Bridge close to Camelford is an inscribed stone, nearly 10ft (3m) in length situated on the bank of the Camel River. It is believed to date from around the 6th or 7th Century. The inscription in Latin 'Latini ic iacit filius Magari' - Latinus lies here, son of Magarus, is also reproduced on the stone in Ogham symbols.
Camelford and the surrounding area has much to offer historians and those with an interest in archaeology. Nearby Rough(pronounced Row) Tor has a number of archaeological features including Round House Settlements, a Tor Enclosure and a nearby stone circle.
