The Looe and South East Cornwall area is home to one of the destinations most often associated with Cornish smuggling, the famous fishing harbour town of Polperro. This splendid picturesque village is arguably one of the most well known of locations in this area, even with people who have never visted Cornwall, but it is certainly not the only place that this often hidden part of Cornwall has to offer.
Looe, consisting of its East and West counterparts which hug the banks of the Looe River, is a highly popular holiday destination with its estuary and coastal scenery and numerous attractions including a fine beaches at Millendreath, Hannafore, West Looe and East Looe beach.
Seaton, Kingsand and Cawsand, Downderry, Whitsand Bay, Portwrinkle and Talland all offer excellent beaches for swimming.
The inland towns and villages hide many of this areas hidden gems including the stone circle at Duloe, the holy well of St Keyne and the remarkable church with its magnificent Norman doorway at St Germans.
Fascinating small villages such as Crafthole, Rame and Maker are a delight to explore.
Liskeard, the most major town of this area lies inland of Looe and is reached through a delightful wooded valley. A branch of the rail line connects Liskeard and Looe with the line following the banks of the East Looe River as it winds its way to the sea.
Callington is another large town in the area with a busy shopping centre.
