 Fishing in Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly

Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly offer huge opportunities for fishing with something for every angler. 

From sea fishing around the magnificent Cornish and Isles of Scilly coastlines to excellent well stocked lakes, pools, reservoirs and rivers throughout Cornwall's interior for  game and coarse fishermen. 

Many of the harbours around Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly offer boat trips for wreck fishing.

With the variety of angling available there is fishing on offer throughout the year.

For anglers using a wheel chair or who experience a mobility problem, an initiative has been set up to provide a 'buddy system'. Their website is www.reels-on-wheels.org

     

 

COARSE FISHING


Coarse Fishing is available on all major rivers in Cornwall  in addition to the many productive stillwaters and reservoirs available.

Most of the usual species of fish are included, plus some unusual ones:

Golden Orfe, Blue Orfe, Pike, Golden Tench , Green Tench, Crucian Carp, Common Carp, Mirror Carp,  Leather Carp, Grass Carp, Bream, Roach, Rudd, Golden Rudd  Dace,  Gudgeon, Barbel, Chub, Perch.

Permits are required to fish.

 

Coarse Fisheries

Some Coarse Fisheries have facilities for disabled anglers. Bank access for wheelchairs and Wheely Boats which can be booked. 

Upper Tamar Lake Coarse Fishing -  Carp, bream, tench, roach, rudd, eels. Open all year.

Crafthole - Carp and tench.  Open all year.

Porth -  Carp, tench, bream, roach, rudd, pike, perch, eels.  Open all year.  Wheelchair accessible fishing platforms. 

Argal -  Carp, pike, tench, bream, rudd, roach, rudd, perch, eels.  Open all year.

Bussow near St Ives -  Carp, tench, bream, roach, rudd, perch, crucian carp, eels.  Open all year.

Boscathnoe  nr Penzance -  Carp, bream, roach, rudd, tench, crucian carp, gudgeon, eels  Open all year.


       

GAME FISHING


Rivers included are: Camel,  Fowey, Lynher, Seaton, Tamar plus reservoirs and many stillwaters.  Salmon fishing is available on the Fowey River.  Wild brown trout can be found in Bodmin Moor's rivers and streams.

Species  include Sea Trout, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Golden Trout and Salmon.

Permits are required to fish.

River fishing for trout or sea trout is available from mid March to mid October, and the growth of winter rainbow fisheries means that you can cast a fly to trout every month of the year.  Winter salmon fishing is available.

Fly fishing only at top stocked fisheries - Trout, brown and rainbow.

Siblyback is a Troutmaster water.  Stocked Rainbow Trout.  Fly fishing only 1st April to 31st October.

Colliford -  Brown Trout Fly fishing only.  Season 15th March - 12th October
Stithians - Intermediate Rainbow Trout. Fly fishing only. 15th March to 12th October.

SEA FISHING


The South West is world famous for it's quality sea fishing. Most species of sea fish can be landed within the area including sharks, bass, garfish, mackerel, wrasse,  pollack, coalfish, mullet, flatfish, conger, scad, gurnard, tope, ling, whiting, pouting, red bream, dogfish, skate, ray, monkfish.

Fishing trips in Cornwall

When Sea Fishing from shore or rocks always consider your safety.  Take into account any hazards and risks and prepare for them.  Ensure you are aware of the weather conditions and state of the tide and make sure you don't get cut off by an incoming tide.   Have the right warm and waterproof clothing and equipment.
