The Porthleven Philharmonic Orchestra will be hosting an incredible evening of classical music on the 5th of October at All Saints Church, Falmouth.
The concert, to be conducted by David Burleigh, will feature fantastic classical works such as Beethoven's Symphony no.6 'The Pastoral' and his Romance in F for Violin and Orchestra, and Sibelius's Finlandia and Karelia Suite.
The Porthleven Philharmonic Orchestra is made up of professional, semi-professional and amateur musicians, all playing to a professional standard. All musicians give their time for free for the chance to play great music in a large orchestra to appreciative audiences.
First performing independently in 2011, the Porthleven Philharmonic Orchestra is now made up of over 60 musicians from all over Cornwall. They are from all walks of life; Doctors, Scientists, Council, NHS workers and of course a large number of the music teachers in the area.
Of this first solo outing, journalist David Stewart commented of Porthleven Philharmonic; “This is an impressive orchestra; the brass and woodwind playing would not be out of place on a London concert platform. David Burleigh has achieved remarkable results with his talented musicians.”
The event will also feature a solo performance on violin from Pamela Rosenfeld. Pamela was a Junior Exhibitioner at The Royal College of Music, before Graduating from The Guildhall. She moved to Cornwall to teach for the County Music Service in 1975 and has recently retired, though is still very busy on the County music scene.
Tickets for the Porthleven Philharmonic Performance are £10 when booked in advance via Eventbrite or £12 on the door. The performance will begin at 7.30pm.
