SUPPORTING & CAMPAIGNING FOR THE OVER-50’S
Issue 32 • December 2013
The last Forum lunch was hailed a great success at the
Carnon Inn, Carnon Downs. The room was very
comfortable and there was loads to eat and loads of choice
so by popular request – and buses permitting – we will be
returning there in the New Year.
We had 2 speakers from Hine Downing in Falmouth. Steven
Bonney came to talk about Equity Release and Roger
Stephens talked about general legal matters and as always,
there was plenty of ebb and flow in the question and
answer department. All in all a very good day.
We are now turning our attention to the Christmas lunch.
This year we have chosen to go to the Penmorvah Manor
Hotel at Budock Water. “No buses” you cry. What we need
you to do is let us know in really good time (no last-minute
thoughts) if you absolutely cannot get there under your own
steam. If you can beg a lift with a friend that will be
brilliant. If you need us to help you out, you must let Judith
know as soon as possible so that arrangements can be
made to make sure we get you there. There is masses of
parking space for those who do come by car.
You will be really pleased to hear that the young men from
Richard Lander School have said they will be delighted to
come to entertain us again this year.
We will also have to ask you to contribute your usual £5.00
for the lunch as we not only subsidise your food but we have to fund the boys’ lunches too.
The hotel grounds are spectacular and if you feel energetic enough after your lunch,
you may like to walk around the grounds – bring suitable footwear.
Champion for the Elderly
Buses, public conveniences, lonliness and isolation!
The bus situation is dire, we all know that and the only answers to questions we get
are that cuts have to be made somewhere. The Government, and Cornwall Council,
are saying they want to reduce the misery of isolation and loneliness for people in
Cornwall but then decide that a bus service is not essential to that very thing. So,
between the closure of public conveniences, cutting of buses and more and more
reliance on the internet many people can’t use, there can be little hope in the near
future of any satisfactory outcome.
This year we have chosen the Penmorvah Manor Hotel for our Christmas lunch.
The Number 35 bus service runs
from the Moor, Falmouth to the
Trelowarren Pub in the village but
I am sure that guests could be
dropped on the corner of our turn
with just a gentle stroll
to the hotel.
