Seen by accident during a walk around the Lizard. At around 4.15pm noticed a small unusual duck on the small pond close to the footpath between Housel Bay and Lizard village. Watched it with binoculars for a while.

Scarlet Tanager
|
We visited Porthchapel Beach on Friday 21st October as a North American female Scarlett Tanager had been spotted, by Saturday reports came from the Isles of Scilly that it had appeared over there.
Very rare and lucky to have seen it in the UK.

Siskin
|
An infrequent visitor to my garden appeared today. It was an adult female Siskin.
I live in North Petherwin and have a large garden with many trees. The variety of birds here is, to me, remarkable. I have seen Treecreepers, and Nuthatches, as well as most varieties of Titmice. Sparrows abound despite reports that they are becoming scarce. Two Greater Spotted Woodpeckers are presently feeding their young here. Starlings appear to have gone on holiday at this time, as they usually do, but will doubtless return. Occasionally Goldcrests appear and, more frequently, Goldfinches. Dunnocks are also visitors.
Meanwhile mixed bathing in the birdbath and squabbling over the birdseed and peanuts by all and sundry!
