Swimming Groups

The new swimming group or, to be more correct, groups has got off to a flying start. One group contains just one member (and a helper) who is trying to overcome her fear of water - and succeeding well. The Groups meet every Wednesday at Truro Swimming Pool.

The other group is for swimmers, especially those amongst us who have not been in the water for 40 years. The activity is enormous fun, very good for one's health and general well-being. The cost is £2.60 (concessions) and worth every penny. Details from Shirley Davis on 01872 - 270030

Art Group

The art group of the University of the Third Age Roseland and District has been in existence one year, in Probus Village Hall from 2.45 pm to 4.45 pm.

Many different aspects of artwork have been carried out, and members are experimenting all the time. If you would like to take part in this relaxing and educational group, you may do so - free of charge once you are a member.

Knitting Group

This newly formed group meets on the second Thursday in each month at the Roseland Parc Retirement Village in Tregony. Coffee and biscuit is served during the morning and chat takes place from 10.00 am to 12 noon. Whether you are an able knitter or have not touched a needle since childhood you will be made welcome. The latest project is to knit squares, sew them into blankets and send them to Kenya for displaced and homeless people there. (The Chairman used to do this in the 1950s and 60s for the War on Want scheme). If you would like to join us, please do so. The next meeting is Thursday 14th February.

Just Scrapbooking Workshops

Just Scrapbooking is running monthly Scrapbooking workshops in the Penzance area, starting in March.

All workshops run from 10.00am to 4.00pm 1st March; make this one your Mothers Day treat! 19th April 3rd May 14th June 5th July; make the most of this one it’s the last until September. 13th September; go for it, you deserve it, especially if you have had the kids for 6 weeks! 4th October 8th November; don’t miss this one it’s the last meeting of the year - who knows what surprises we have in store for those who have been attending regularly?

Murdoch Day - Redruth

Event to celebrate the life and work of William Murdoch who invented domestic gas lighting in Redruth.

Live music and entertainment, stalls on Fore Street and in the Royal British Legion carpark, Redruth. Life-size replica of the pioneering steam carriage 'Murdoch flyer' in the Market Place. Freddy Zapp and other bands entertain the crowds on Green Lane and St Rumon's Gardens. The Flowerpot carpark will be attracting the usual people with a new 'bungy ride' that should interest everyone.
