PENDEEN CONSOLS, in St. Just, Cornwall, in 5,000 shares. Purser, Mr. Richard White, Trewellard, St. Just. Manager, Captain James Warne, Boscaswell, St. Just. Landowner, Samuel Borlase, Esq., Castle Horneck, Penzance. Dues, l-22nd, tin ; l-20th, copper. Rocks, granite, killas, and greenstone. Depth of adit, 26 fathoms. Depth under, 154 fathoms. Pumping-engine, 24-inch cylinder. Stamp ing-engine, 32-inch (32 heads). Winding and crushing-engine, 19-inch. This mine was commenced by a Company formed 10 years ago by Mr. Richard Greenwood, who undertook, for an expenditure of £4,000, to put the mine into a dividend state"; and that no more calls should be made. Nearly £20,000 have been called up since then. The prospects at present are fair. From 'Observations on the West of England Mining Region' J.H. Collins PENDEEN CONSOLS St Just. An old mine reopened in 1845. In 1864 was 154 fathoms below adit (26) had a 24-inch pumping, 32-inch stamping, 19-inch winding and crushing engines. In 1870 was 220 fathoms deep and employed 100 people. 1858-70, sold 185 tons of black tin for £11,442 and 6609 tons of copper ore for £24,364. The production before the reopening in 1845 must have been very large, but is quite unknown. The property is now held by the Boscaswell Tin and Copper Mines Ltd, registered in 1907.
