The Engine House Trail, in Cornish, Hens an Jynjyow, is a 38.7km (24 mile trail) which explores an area with the largest concentration of mining heritage in Cornwall - the Camborne - Redruth area.
This is a multi-use trail trail for walking, cycling and horse-riding.
From Hayle, with the remains of its old founderies, formerly run by Harveys and The Cornish Copper Company, the trail follows quiet roads to Camborne, passing through Gwinear, Carnhell Green and Barripper.
At Camborne, the trail utilises a mostly traffic-free route, part of the Mineral Tramways, passing the base of the impressive Carn Brea with its ancient archaeological remains and its monument to a local mining worthy, Lord de Dunstanville to reach Redruth. This area contains hundreds of mine engine houses and was once the mining centre of the UK.
From Redruth, the trail passes Carharrack and St Day, both former mining villages, and joins more old tramway routes to Bissoe. At this point you can choose to follow a minor road to Truro or stay on the trail route (part of the National Cycle Network Route 3) visiting Perranwell Station and Devoran, before going on to Carnon Downs, Playing Place and Calenick, to reach the end of the trail at the cathedral city of Truro.
