Pendarves Wood is a mostly mixed broad-leaved woodland with streams, a lake and an area of marshland.
The wood and lake were created in the 19th century as part of the Pendarves estate. Pendarves was a prominent late 18th century house. Previous houses on the site date back to the 16th century. The site extends to 16 hectares/40 acres.
Pendarves Wood offers a great habitat to a variety of birds, plants and other wildlife.
Wildlife you are likely to see at Pendarves Woods: Yellow Brimstone butterflies in early spring; Bluebells in April and May; Spotted Flycatchers visit during the summer.
During World War II the estate was used by the Americans as a base. The house was later demolished and the estate was left to run wild. The Duchy of Cornwall now own the land and it is managed jointly by the Cornwall Wildlife Trust and Camborne Town Council.
