The Tehidy Trail is a multi-use trail, 4km (2.5 miles) in length and leads through Tehidy Country Park, the estate which was once owned by Sir Francis Basset of mining fame and whose monument stands atop Carn Brea.
The trail is mostly flat but does have some steeper sections. Tehidy Woods contain several technical downhills.
Tehidy Trail can be accessed from the East Lodge entrance to Tehidy Country Park or from the Portreath side - parking is available at both access points.
From this trail you can link in with the Portreath Branchline Trail, the Coast to Coast Trail and even the Great Flat Lode Trail, to explore further the Mineral Tramways of Cornwall.
Sir Francis Basset was likely a descendant of the Bassets who came here after the Norman invasion in 1066. The manor of Tehidy had been in the Basset family for centuries until they finally left it in 1915. A monument to Lord De Dunstanville (Sir Francis Basset) was erected on Carn Brea in 1836 and many roads ad pubs still bear the Basset name in honour of this important family.
The trail can be used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders.
