Hoverfly (Eristalis) on Corn Marigold (Glebionis segetum)

One of the many species of hoverfly in the genus Eristalis. Sometimes known as the dronefly because of its resemblance to the honeybee drone.

Corn Marigolds used to be a frequent sight in arable fields but today they are usually only seen in protected areas which are managed for wildlife.
