Point Mills Arsenic Refinery near Bissoe was famous for the high quality of its arsenic.
The production of arsenic was a by product of tin smelting. The arsenic was exported for use in cotton plantations to control boll weevil.
A chimney and other structures are still visible. The British Arsenic Company, later to become the Cornwall Arsenic Company, ran this factory for around one hundred years. The works closed in 1939.
After the refinery closed in 1939 the site remained unused until it was landscaped to form a public leisure area in 1986.
In an area that was formerly highly industrial with mines, arsenic works and associated industries, the site today stands adjacent to Bissoe Valley Nature Reserve
