Porth Chapel is a small sandy beach tucked away in the St Levan parish approached through a pretty valley walk from St Levan church.
The valley walk is beautiful at any time of year but during spring and summer wild flowers abound and the sheltered valley is popular for birds.
A holy well stands here on the side of the valley just before the descent to the beach. The holy well is dedicated to St Levan, patron of the church. The area was previously known as Port Selevan, named after the saint who is believed to have landed here in the 6th century. A granite baptistry stands adjacent to the well, now roofless. The water is still used for baptisms and is also thought to have some efficacy in the treatment of toothache and eye conditions.
From the beach you can follow the coastal path towards Porthcurno or to Porthgwarra and the Land's End.
