Newlyn Harbour is mentioned as early as 1435. This quay belongs to the old part of the harbour and is still used today, incorporated into the new harbour.

A plaque on the building on the old quay, celebrates the 150th anniversary of the fishing lugger, 'Mystery', who left on the 18th November 1854 bound for Australia. She arrived in Hobson's Bay, Melbourne on the 14th March 1855.

Mineral extraction started here in the early 19th century. Gwavas Quarry closed in 1989/90.

The Ocean Pride is the only remaining Peakes built counter stern lugger in existence.

In December 2017 she was brought home to Newlyn on a trailer.

With the help of the local community, donations and heritage funding she can be restored to her former glory and hopefully in time for her centenary.
