Portreath suffered severe damage during the 2018 Storm Eleanor. In 2014, 4 years ago to the day, Portreath was hit by another storm which demolished the 200 year old look-out hut on the harbour, known as the 'monkey house'. The look-out was rebuilt and survived Storm Eleanor

The cliffs at Western Hill near Portreath are spectacularly high and are a great place for nesting seabirds.
