Founded by Mary Berryman in 1995, The Flicka Foundation Donkey Sanctuary now provides a safe home for over 100 donkeys and horses, all of which have been rescued from abuse, neglect and abandonment.
Visitors are welcome all year round. Opening times are below.
There is no admission charge but donations are always very welcome so please give whatever you can.
In 2020, Flicka will be celebrating their Silver Jubilee - 25 years of animal rescue. They've launched an appeal to build an equine hospital to provide the best care for rescued donkeys and ponies.

A visit to the donkeys and horses makes a lovely day out.
Visit Us
Find out about the work of the sanctuary, wander along the trail between the paddocks to watch the donkeys and horses - some of them may stroll over to the fence to greet you but remember that some donkeys may be more cautious of visitors, especially if they've been mistreated in the past, so be patient and let them come to you if they want to.
Refreshments are available at the cafe. There is also a gift shop where you can buy souvenirs of your visit with many of the donkeys featured on mugs, pillows, fridge magnets and many more excellent gift ideas.
The Flicka Foundation could not survive without your generosity and help.
How You can Help the Donkeys and Horses Cared for by The Flicka Foundation
Donate
Flicka is a registered charity and relies wholly and solely on donations to enable them to look after the donkeys and horses in their care and allows us to save the others out there that desperately need our help.
The cost of feeding the resident donkeys and horses alone totals £60,000 per year (not including essential veterinary care, health supplements and farrier fees) and there are many other costs too.
Your donation will also support their vital educational outreach work and help to complete significant ongoing projects to improve the sanctuary for the animals.
Please support the Flicka Foundation to help these wonderful creatures.
Adopt a Donkey
Adoption packs make lovely gifts. For birthdays, Christmas, to mark a special event or simply because you would like to adopt a donkey. By adopting, you are helping to ensure the future of Flicka's vital work.

A Gift in Your Will
If you want to help these rescued donkeys and horses you can consider leaving a legacy to Flicka. A gift to Flicka, large or small, would make an amazing difference and allows the Sanctuary to protect donkeys and horses from abuse and neglect, rescue and rehabilitate victims of cruelty and give them a safe, caring home for life.

Volunteer
Could you spare some time for the donkeys and horses?
Flicka always needs volunteers to help at the sanctuary. There is so much work to do at the centre. Early mornings bring the hard slog of mucking out umpteen stables, turning horses and donkeys out, bringing them in, fields to be attended to, feeding, grooming, and cleaning – there is always cleaning and sweeping to do.
You can even learn all about the animals so you in turn can show people around. Each day consists of generally the same kind of intensive labour, but unexpected occurrences can also dictate what happens each day, for example a rescue, or an ailing horse or donkey, inclement weather conditions and so on.
