Holywell Bay has a beautiful sandy beach backed by golden dunes covered with Marram Grass with a stream winding its way to the sea.
There are excellent walks along the coast path to the north around Kelsey Head and Porth Joke (locally known as Polly Joke)and onwards to West Pentire, Crantock and Newquay or to the south where you can get excellent views of the huge sand dunes of Penhale with Perranporth in the distance.
Cornish Choughs, members of the crow family have been spotted around Holywell Bay. These rare birds disappeared from Cornwall but they are now returning in small numbers. They regularly breed at the Lizard
Holywell Bay has been used as a filming location for the latest series of Poldark starring Aidan Turner and Eleanor Tomlinson.

Holywell Bay in History
On the north of the beach in a cave on the side of Kelsey Head is the Holy Well which gives the bay its name. Accessed by steps cut in the stone ascend about 20 feet to view the well which is believed for many centuries to have curative properties for some childhood diseases and for bowel disorders. Whether this was the dwelling place of Saint Cubert is unknown.
Another Holy Well in the valley behind the beach at Trevornick is a further contender for the Saint's dwelling place. The stone 14th century well building has been restored by the Newquay Old Cornwall Society.
