Trewellard is a village on the Land's End Peninsula.
The history of Trewellard is closely linked with the mining industry which was so important in this part of Cornwall.
The church of Trewellard is interesting in that it was designed by its Reverend, Robert Aitken, and built entirely by the local miners. It was completed in 1851.
Tin at Trewellard Mine was found in 'floors' all within 7 fathoms (13m) of the surface. A very different story to some of the other mines in St Just such as those at Levant and Botallack, where workings extended a mile under the seabed.
Mines here worked throughout the 19th century.
Today, this area celebrates its mining heritage and is part of the World Heritage Site, a status which was awarded in 2006.
