TR19 6QW St Ives Feast Day and Hurling of the Silver Ball Every February on Feast MondayAncient custom in St Ives which is held annually on Feast Monday. The Feast Day falls on the first Monday after February 3rd.
Begins with a civic procession from the Guildhall lead by the St Ives Guisers and featuring local schoolchildren and other organisations.
The procession goes through the town for a blessing at St Ia Well, near Porthmeor Beach and back to the Parish Church gardens where the ancient hurling of the silver ball is re-enacted at around 10.30pm. Whoever returns the ball to the mayor on the steps of St Ives Guildhall at midday receives a silver coin.
At around 11.30am on the steps of the Guildhall, the Mayor will distribute pennies to children under 7 years old.
At midday the Silver Ball will be returned to the Mayor at The Guildhall, and pennies will be distributed to children aged 7 years and above.

St Ives Literature Festival Every May St Ives May Day Every MaySt Ives May Day - a celebration of Spring rooted in the ancient customs of the town.
At midday at the Guildhall the Grand Bard and Mayor of St Ives choose the May Queen and King and their attending Prince and Princess, in a ceremony known as the “pee whip” The St Ives Guisers appear and horn blowers herald the start of spring.
At 1pm there’s a parade to the harbour where you can watch May pole dances, traditional Cornish dancing and music. Various local choirs and brass bands perform by the harbour throughout the day.

Owners and crews of traditional style boats are invited to come and enjoy the atmosphere and pageantry of the Golowan festival from this scenic harbour arena, situated in the heart of historic Penzance
There will be sailing opportunities, with a race and a parade of sail for the energetic individuals who wish to explore the beautiful waters of Mounts Bay, and for those who wish to sit back, relax and soak up the atmosphere, most of the world will seem to pass by their harbour viewpoint at some time during the weekend. The event can be incorporated as a stopping-off point for those vessels heading for the other festivals.
There will be stalls, maritime craft displays, exhibitions and opportunities to meet and mingle with other crews at a crew supper. Penzance is home to a variety of heritage and traditional boats (luggers, gaffers, pilot gigs, ketches, crabbers and toshers), the owners of which, look forward to welcoming friends old and new, to historic maritime Penzance.

RNLI Around the Mount Swim 2019 Every SeptemberSwim to raise money for the RNLI.
The RNLI Around the Mount Open Water Swim is a one and a half mile open water sea swim around the iconic St Michaels Mount in Mounts Bay, Cornwall.
This challenge is a must for all sea swimmers and promises to be great fun.
All money raised will go towards Penlee Lifeboat Station at Newlyn.
This popular event is strictly limited to 250 swimmers and is open to anyone over the age of 14. Please note, participants should be intermediate or experienced open water swimmers.
The swim is an absolutely fantastic event largely run by volunteers, without whom it wouldn't be possible. It promises to be great fun with a fantastic atmosphere, so do come along and get involved.
If swimming isn't your thing but you would still like to be involved, please get in touch as there are many volunteering opportunities available on the day.

Great Western Dog Walk Every OctoberIn aid of Brain Tumour Research
Join in the Great Western Dog Walk from Marazion to Penzance and celebrate dogs being allowed back on Cornwall’s beaches after the summer season ban and help raise funds for Brain Tumour Research and Support.

Entry fee £6 per adult. The entry fee includes a pasty and drink at the finish, and a goody bag for every dog.

Penzance, Cornwall Montol Festival Every DecemberPenzance hosts a midwinter festival, the Montol Festival, a programme of events to mark the winter solstice including the 'Rivers of Fire Lantern Parade', cultural events, workshops and a market.
Montol is the Cornish word for the Midwinter Solstice according to Edward Lhuyd in his 1700 MSS Vocabulary. See the Montol Festival website for details of the events.
The team behind Montol would love as many people as possible to dress up in mock formal and masks and partake in this annual event.
There will be street entertainers and market stalls from 12 Noon.
The evening proceedings will begin at 4pm with The Guise and Children’s Sundown Procession which will start at the top of Causewayhead and end on Chapel Street. This year’s ‘Lord of Misrule’ will then be chosen, followed by the 6pm procession leaving from Chapel Street to the burn the sun effigy at The Princess May Recreation Ground.
Between 7pm and 8pm the Guise Guilds will choose their Masters and will roam establishments with different themed performances (information on how to join the guilds can be found on; https://www.facebook.com/montolfestival )
Meeting outside Lloyds Bank at 10 pm, the procession will then continue down to The Barbican area picking up Guise Beasts along the way and culminating with a winding serpent dance to The Admiral Benbow where the Lord of Misrule’s Reception will be held. Tom Bawcock is the legendary fisherman who braved wild seas in order to catch fish to feed a hungry village. He brought home seven different types of fish, a feast for the hungry villagers of Mousehole.
The dish, Starry Gazy Pie, is uniquely Cornish and is so called because the heads of the fish protrude from the pastry as if they are are staring into the sky.
