This striking little building is believed to date from the fourteenth century.

It was used as a look-out point when shoals of pilchard were expected to arrive in Newquay Bay. The huer would call on a horn to alert the townspeople, creating a hue and cry.

The elevated position above the bay allowed to huer to use hand signals to guide the fishing boats to surround the pilchard shoal and close in on them trapping the pilchards in their nets.

Before this use, it was possibly a hermitage, where the hermit may have been responsible for lighting a signal fire to aid shipping.

The building has a fireplace which was altered in the nineteenth century but the chimney is late medieval in the typical Cornish style.

In 2015, television personality, Phillip Schofield, donated £8000 towards the restoration of the Huer's Hut.

At the time this photograph was taken Lusty Glaze beach had suffered a cliff fall which had caused some damage. The beach, restaurant and regular facilities are open and operating normally. Only a small area is not accessible while remedial works are undertaken.

From the headland, Towan Head, in the foreground the beaches are: Harbour Beach; Towan Beach; Great Western; Tolcarne; and Lusty Glaze Beach.

The beach on the most distant point of the bay is Porth Beach also known as St Columb Porth.

Fistral and Little Fistral Beaches cannot be seen in this photograph. They are just to the right of the headland.

Nun Cove lies between Little Fistral and Towan Head. It is named after the tiny shells found in the cove.

The old lifeboat house stands on the neck of Towan Head.

This is Newquay's second lifeboat house. The first was located in Fore Street. This house was built in 1899 and operated until 1934. Its lifeboat saved 142 lives.

At the furthest point of the headland on the look-out stands a white shelter with benches where you can sit and enjoy the stunning panoramic views.

This long, sandy beach near Newquay is only two miles from Cornwall Newquay Airport making it an ideal destination for visitors flying in to Cornwall for a short break.

The beach offers a range of leisure activities both land and water based.

This area and the beach is also known as Tregurrian.

One of the nearest beaches to Cornwall Newquay Airport. Also known as Tregurrian Beach.

At low tide this long, sandy beach stretches all the way to Whipsiderry Beach at Newquay.
