Coastline between Falmouth Bay and St Austell Bay recognised as important for rare birds

Birdwatching

The area of coastline between Falmouth Bay and St Austell Bay on Cornwall's south coast has been designated as a marine special protected area (SPA)

This 24 miles of coastline which includes beautiful, unspoiled beaches and stunning coastal scenery is home to over 150,000 rare seabirds including black-throated divers and little terns. The area's new status will provide them with extra protection by minimising disturbance to the birds that feed there and who use the Cornish coastal areas as a safe haven during winter. .

This newly designated stretch of coast covers an area equivalent to 55,000 football pitches.
