Duckpool is a pretty beach on the north coast of Cornwall between Bude and Morwenstow.
A natural dam of large rounded pebbles separates the river which emerges here from the sea, creating a pool of fresh water. The pool today is frequented by ducks.

Duckpool in History
The universal custom of Blessing the Seas has been held here.
The ceremony involved a cross of purple heather being cast on the waters.
The name, Duckpool, is believed to originate from the period when witches were ducked in ponds to ascertain their innocence or guilt. It would have been a no win situation for any of the alleged witches as you were found innocent if you drowned and if you floated and survived the ducking you were declared to be guilty of being a witch and hung.
At its northern end, Duckpool beach is bounded by Steeple Point, well named, as it is a very strenuous uphill walk and provides fantastic panoramic views of Coombe Valley and the surrounding area from its summit.
