The Tintagel and North Cornwall area has a coastline of towering rugged cliffs and an interior with numerous fascinating small towns and villages.
Tintagel, famous for its association with King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, is a popular destination for visitors and residents alike. The archaeological site in its magnificent setting on The Island at Tintagel shows occupancy over many centuries with the ruins of the Iron Age Cliff Castle dating back around 2000 years.
Boscastle, tucked away between steep cliffs, presents a splendid sight as you enter on the coast road from Tintagel. The village is dwarfed by towering cliffs and its harbour is narrow and winding, making its way between the rocks to its seaward entrance. The village is associated with the Victorian author, Thomas Hardy, who wrote of it in his 'At Castle Boterel'. Hardy married the daughter of the Rector of the nearby church of St Juliot.
Widemouth Bay and Bude, towards the north of the area have fine beaches for surfing and swimming.
The geology of this part of Cornwall is particularly interesting with amazing examples of folding of the rock strata viewable in the cliffs at Millook Haven.
Walkers will find an abundance of trails including, not only the stunning coastal footpath, but also beautiful inland walks beside tumbling streams in wooded valleys such as the lovely woodland walk through Millook Valley Woods.
Towns and villages such as Delabole, Morwenstow, Kilkhampton, St Gennys, Poundstock, Crackington Haven, Stratton, Camelford abound in interest and provide a fascinating insight into the history of this part of Cornwall.
The Tintagel and North Cornwall area has a huge range of holiday accommodation available from touring and camp sites to self catering holiday cottages and luxurious hotels. Hundreds of attractions include both outdoor and all weather facilities.
