Bedruthan Steps
Bedruthan Steps Beaches |
|
Bedruthan Steps Beach is only accessible by a steep cliff staircase which is open during some months of the year. Usually closed 1st November to 28th February. The beach is unsuitable for bathing at any time because of dangerous currents.
At high tide the sea covers the entire beach right up to the cliff staircase. At low tide Bedruthan Steps beach is a wide sandy beach. It has many rock pools to explore around the 'giant's steps'. There are caves on the beach, notably to your left as you descend the cliff staircase. This large cave can be explored and provides access to the next beach but only attempt this on a falling tide or you will find the sea rising and you will be cut off. To the right of the beach is Diggory's Island. On a falling tide you can walk the narrow sandy path between the mainland and this island. As Bedruthan Beach is not suitable for swimming there is no lifeguard cover. There is an Emergency Telephone at the top of the cliff staircase and on the outside of the National Trust Shop in the car park. Dogs allowed on the beach at any time of the year when it is open. Make sure you refer to the tide tables provided at the National Trust Cafe at the parking area near Carnewas Point or carry a tide tables booklet with you.
