Porthcothan Beach
A fine sandy beach backed by grassy dunes popular with families. North-west facing. At low tide the beach opens out, merging with small coves to the north and south. At high tide the beach is long and sheltered between cliffs. Good for swimming. Surfing is good for novices from low to mid tide with breaks on sand banks but does not offer a challenge for experienced surfers. Local surf schools use the beach for tuition. Caution should be taken at spring tides when rip currents can occur. Wind: E/SE offshore Lifeguards are on duty at Porthcothan Beach from May to the end of September. For more information about the lifeguard service - RNLI Area support centre - www.beachlifeguards.org.uk Porthcothan beach is dog friendly with dogs allowed on the beach all year round.
