Join Marine biologist Matt Slater to explore the shore! With one of the lowest spring tides of the year we will be looking at the amazing marine life found on the rocky remains of St Ives' old quay. Bring sensible footwear and waterproofs and warm clothes. Under 18's must be accompanied by an adult.

Annual Events in St Ives
St Ives Feast Day and Hurling of the Silver Ball
Every February on Feast Monday
Ancient custom in St Ives which is held annually on Feast Monday. The Feast Day falls on the first Monday after February 3rd.
Begins with a civic procession from the Guildhall lead by the St Ives Guisers and featuring local schoolchildren and other organisations.
The procession goes through the town for a blessing at St Ia Well, near Porthmeor Beach and back to the Parish Church gardens where the ancient hurling of the silver ball is re-enacted at around 10.30pm. Whoever returns the ball to the mayor on the steps of St Ives Guildhall at midday receives a silver coin.
At around 11.30am on the steps of the Guildhall, the Mayor will distribute pennies to children under 7 years old.
At midday the Silver Ball will be returned to the Mayor at The Guildhall, and pennies will be distributed to children aged 7 years and above.

8 days of literature in St Ives with book launches, poetry readings, workshops and open air events.
St Ives May Day
St Ives May Day - a celebration of Spring rooted in the ancient customs of the town.
At midday at the Guildhall the Grand Bard and Mayor of St Ives choose the May Queen and King and their attending Prince and Princess, in a ceremony known as the “pee whip” The St Ives Guisers appear and horn blowers herald the start of spring.
At 1pm there’s a parade to the harbour where you can watch May pole dances, traditional Cornish dancing and music. Various local choirs and brass bands perform by the harbour throughout the day.

St Ives Literature Festival is held annually in May.

St Ives September Festival is held every September with a huge programme of over 200 events including:
St Ives will be buzzing, when artists and visitors from around the world converge on the town to join the local community for one of the biggest arts
festivals in Cornwall. The festival has a huge range of events covering all tastes - there really is something for everybody.
You can listen to a well known artist talk about their work, view leading edge contemporary art, have a beer at a traditional pub gig, see movies,
indulge your passion for Jazz, knit on the beach, enjoy a gourmet meal or take a lantern-lit walk with ghost stories.
During the few moments when this storm of culture pauses you can chill out on one of four beaches and enjoy the stunning views across the sea.
The events are spread across the town with some taking place on the harbour front and streets. Many are free, others are modestly priced.

'Fair Wednesday' is a craft and general market which runs every Wednesday at St Ives' Guildhall from Easter week until December.
Food stalls, art, jewellery, clothing, bric-a- brac, books, palmistry and Tarot readers etc.
Stalls are normally £13.50. First time traders £7. Doubles £24.
Unloading from 7.30am, trade from 10am-4pm.
