Cardinham Castle dates from the 11th century and is located south of Cardinham village.
There is little of the original structure remaining.
The earthwork consists of a motte and bailey.
The castle was founded by Richard fitz Turold.
The motte and its south-eastern bailey, stands at a strategic point at the end of a steep-sided spur above a confluence of streams.
No trace of the entrance and the north-south double bank remain. The motte has been severely damaged by surface stone digging.
Please gain permission from the landowner before visiting.
Car parking is available beside the road.
