St Blazey to Par Beach is one of the Clay Trails in Cornwall's China Clay district and can be walked or cycled
Length of trail: 3 miles (5 km)
Leaving the town of St Blazey the cycling route of the trail is easy and quite flat all the way to Par Beach.
Between Eden and St Blazey the trail can only be walked but there is an alternative route for cyclists along a country road that runs parallel to the footpath. The walking only section has some slopes.
The trail begins in an area where the china clay (kaolin) was excavated. You will see clay pits and clay tips. The size of some of the china clay tips has earned them the name of the 'Cornish Alps'. Passing through the countryside near the marshes of the former river estuary, you reach the town of Tywardreath.
Getting close to Par you will see the tall chimneys at Par Docks, where the clay is dried with white clouds of steam rising into the sky. The finished product - fine clay - is exported to many parts of the world. The trail ends at Par Beach.
