Lanyon Quoit is an impressive archaeological monument dating from the Neolithic period.
The New Stone Age in Britain lasted for around 1500 years between c. 4000 to 2500 BC
The remains of this Penwith chamber tomb were re-erected in the 19th Century after a fall which damaged some of the stones. The capstone now appears to be lower than in the original structure.
This type of megalithic structure is also referred to as a 'dolmen'.
Lanyon Quoit is situated very close to the minor road from Madron to Morvah. It does not require a long walk to view it.
