This section of the coast path takes you from Pendeen Lighthouse along rocky cliffs into the heart of the St Just Mining District, now designated as a Cornish Mining World Heritage site.
Beginning at Pendeen Watch, where car parking is available, follow the road for a short distance until you are opposite the last cottages. Look out for the coast path sign on the right. There are paths closer to the cliff edge but take care as these can suffer from erosion.
Below you is Pendeen Old Cliff and The Enys, meaning 'island' in Cornish. To the left of The Enys is Enys Zawn. Zawn is from the Cornish word sawen or saven, meaning a deep and narrow sea-inlet with steep or vertical side-walls cut by erosion into sea-cliffs, and as you will see it is aptly named.
Continue along the coast path which is close to the cliff edge here and on your seaward side is The Avarack with Carn Ros on your right. This derives from the Cornish words 'carn' meaning 'tor' or 'rockpile' and 'ros' meaning 'hill-spur', 'promontory' or 'moor'.
The coast path drops steadily into Trewellard Bottoms where there is a foot bridge. 'Bottoms' is an example of Cornish dialect, meaning a valley bottom or lower ground. Trewellard Zawn, another chasm in the cliffs is to your right.
After crossing the footbridge the coast path climbs up through the ruins of the old East Levant mine which was renamed in 1920 as North Levant mine. Follow the coast path signs to the left and they will take you to the car park for Levant Mine and Beam Engine.
