St Anthony in Meneage, in Cornish, Lannentenin, is a parish and a churchtown on the east coast of the Lizard peninsula.
The Meneage district is believed to be named after the monks who lived in monasteries here. The word is from the Cornish, 'menegh' meaning 'monks'.
The churchtown stands on a peninsula between Gillan Harbour and the Helford River.
The parish church is dedicated to St Anthony and stands near the beach at Gillan Harbour. Mostly medieval, it has a window in the chancel from the Early English period. The north aisle has an arcade of plain octagonal piers. The granite tower at the west end is from the 15th century, as is the decorated font.
Gillan Creek divides the parish with the churchtown on the north side of Gillan Harbour and Carne, Flushing and Gillan on the south side.
The parish also contains the ancient settlements of Boden and Trewarnevas and Bosahan Garden, planted by the Grylls family and developed by A P Vivian.
The Cornwall Coast Path passes along both sides of Gillan Harbour, and crosses Gillan Creek on stepping stones which can only be used at low water. When we visited the stepping stones were covered in weed and were very slippery so we found it easier to wear wellingtons and cross carefully close to the stones. The coast path leaves the parish after rounding Dennis Head on the south side of the Helford River.
