Towednack is a parish in West Penwith on the Land's End peninsula
Towednack parish church is dedicated to St Tewinock. The church was a chapel until 1902. It dates from the 13th century and has some 15th century additions including its south aisle. It is believed that this church was delivering its services in Cornish until 1678 and was the last church in Cornwall to do this. The church was filmed in the making of the Poldark television series.
The Feast Day of the parish is the Sunday closest to the 28th April. The Towednack Cuckoo Feast is believed to commemorate the event of a cuckoo which was caught by a farmer, as it made its escape from a burning log, as he held a party to celebrate the changing of the season.
Mining was a major industry in this parish in the 1800s. Rosewall Hill Mine, which produced tin throughout the 19th century and Giew Consols which remained working into the 1920s, were two of twenty two mines in the area.
Of archaeological interest is the Amalveor area of Towednack parish, where two gold bracelets were found dating from the Bronze Age. There are a number of tumuli scattered across this ancient landscape showing evidence of Bronze age occupation here.
