Church Cove, on the east coast of the Lizard, stands in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and within the Caerthillian to Kennack Site of Special Scientific Interest.
It has a small stony beach, sometimes with small areas of sand between serpentine cliffs. At high water there is no beach but at low tide the narrow inlet extends to around 55 yards (50 metres). The Church Cove valley contains several disused serpentine quarries. The cove is accessed by a lane passing Landewednack Parish Church and a number of pretty thatched cottages. Once a thriving fishing cove, today its fish cellars and boat houses have become residential properties. Some fishing still takes place and you may see boats hauled up on the slipway. No lifeguard service. No rescue equipment. Swimming is possible on a rising tide. Some rock pools. Good for snorkelling south to Kilkobben Cove. Church Cove is not a surfing beach. Church Cove is dog friendly with dogs allowed all year round. Nearest facilities are at Lizard Village, 1.1kms away, where you will find toilets, shops, cafes and pubs.
