Kynance Cove, in Cornish, Ben Kewnans, is a cove and beach on the west coast of the Lizard peninsula.
This beach on the eastern side of Mount's Bay is considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. White sand and the colourful serpentine rock create a striking appearance, together with the wonderful rock formations and caves which include Asparagus Island, The Bishop, Gull Rock, Steeple Rock, The Drawing Room, The Parlour and the Devil's Bellows.
The rock stacks and caves can be explored at low water.
Kynance Cove has been a popular destination since Victorian times when it received many famous visitors.
In September 2015 it was used as one of the filming locations for the second series of the most recent adaptation of the Poldark novels.
The National Trust car park is located a 10 - 15 minute walk from the cove. There is a good path, although the path is quite steep in parts.
It's name is from the Cornish words ben - 'foot of' and kewnans - 'steep-sided valley' but it has been known as Kynance Cove since 1794.
This area is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and is within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is geologically important and designated as a Geological Conservation Review site because of its serpentine exposures which contain granite and gneiss.
Asparagus island is connected to the mainland by a rocky ridge which was formed over 100,000 years ago.
This island has a blowhole known as the Devil's Bellows which produces unusual sounds at a mid tide. Another blowhole, known as the Post Office, is named for its ability to create enough suction to draw a letter into it.
