Porthtowan beach is a wide sandy beach backed by dunes and flanked by cliffs.There is plenty of beach at all states of the tide but at low water the sands extend from Lushington Cove in the west and towards Chapel Porth to the east. Blue Flag award. Surfing at Porthtowan is popular and various surfing events are held here. Porthtowan beach has a seasonal dog ban 15th May to 30th September between 10am and 6pm. Outside these hours and between 1st October and the 14th May dogs are allowed on the beach. Facilities include a large car park with toilets close to the beach, shops and cafes. RNLI Lifeguards are on duty at Porthtowan beach at Easter and then from the beginning of May to the end of September.
