It's official! Penzance has more pirates than anywhere else on the globe, arghhh!

Today, (Sunday 26th June 2011) Penzance smashed the world record for having the most 'pirates' together in one place, a feat which should gain Penzance a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

8,734 scurvy pirates wielding cutlasses, blunderbusses and an amazing array of pirate couture descended on Penzance Promenade to pillage and loot the record from its former holder, Hastings.

Whole families turned out in full pirate regalia, including a live parrot, to bring the record to Penzance on a gloriously warm, sunny day - Quay Fair Day - the last day of the Golowan Festival.
