White Stuff Surf Relief Day 2007

One of this summer’s most exciting FREE music and surfing festivals – right on the beach at Watergate Bay, Cornwall 7th July 2007. Leading fashion lifestyle clothing label White Stuff is working with Surf Relief UK – the UKs leading surfing charity - on what will be one of the biggest beach festivals of the summer - and all in aid of Charity! The White Stuff Surf Relief Day will draw together live music, pro surfing and a raft of beach games and entertainment at the unique and stunning location of Watergate Bay, near Newquay - and all money raised at the event will be used by Surf Relief UK (SRUK) to fund their current ‘Surfable’ project – helping disadvantaged kids through the sport of surfing. Throughout the day, the UK’s top surfers will compete for the White Stuff Surf Relief Day cup – with some World Class surfing - and later, the Beach Stage will play host to some of the best new live music around including Jackson Analogue, the Barnaby Ray Quartet, TwoSpotGobi, The Tarka Groove Experiment, and Johnny Pioneer. Some of the fantastic Beach activities on the day include a Premier Sixes Beach Football tournament, Ultimate Frisbee, Beach BBQ and loads of stuff for kids too – with a Rock Pool Roadshow from the Blue Reef Aquarium and a design your own White Stuff T-shirt competition. Divers from the Cornwall Parachute Club will be literally dropping in on the White Stuff Surf Relief Day – so get there early to not miss it! Categories in the surfing competition include the White Stuff Surf Relief Open, the Surf Relief Day Women’s Competition and the Surf Relief Day Grommet Competition as well as Fancy Dress and Fun Board/Swell Board competitions. Numbers for each category are limited and demand is expected to be high - so if you are interested go to www.whitestuff.com/events for an application form. The Jamie Oliver inspired Fifteen Cornwall will also be getting involved. Students from the restaurant will be helping out during the day. Buddying up with disabled young people in some surfing coaching sessions, the students will experience working with other disadvantaged young people introducing them to a whole new and exciting experience. “We are delighted to announce our sponsorship of the 2007 White Stuff Surf Relief Day,” said Susan Crawford, Marketing Manager for White Stuff. “This unique event combines a free festival on the beach with world class surfing, beach football and top music! As a lifestyle brand, we’re delighted to be able to help support such a meaningful yet fun and action-packed day that will raise funds that will touch the lives of hundreds of people. We’ve been getting the word out to thousands of customers in our 45 UK stores and the reaction has been phenomenal. We’re all very excited about heading down to Watergate Bay and getting involved in the event itself ” Set up in the wake of the 2004 tsunami disaster, SRUK has evolved into a significant charity that helps introduce surfing to disadvantaged and disabled people across the UK and further afield. The invaluable results of SRUK’s work in Sri Lanka continues to be felt and following last year’s launch of the innovative ‘Surfable’ project, young, deaf and partially hearing people from across the South West have had new, unique chances to take to the waves in a personalised, safe, supportive environment. This year the Charity aims to expand its work introducing other disabled young people to the sport of surfing. Chairman of SRUK, Dave Manley says, ‘Surf Relief UK is a small charity achieving big things. The partnership with White Stuff marks an exciting new start to 2007 for SRUK. White Stuff has shown great commitment and support for our charity and with their help 'The White Stuff Surf Relief Day 2007' will be bigger and better than previous events and will raise significant funds for disadvantaged children and young people. Having such a major retailer on board and working with the events experience of the Watergate Bay team takes everything to a new level. The 7th of July is set to be an amazing day and I want to thank our sponsors and all our volunteers for all their hard work in getting the plans to their advanced stage in such a short space of time.” For more information on this FREE charity music and surf festival visit www.whitestuff.com/events and www.surfrelief.org.uk
