SUPPORTING & CAMPAIGNING FOR THE OVER-50’S
We hope you all survived the Christmas and New Year festivities and we wish you a healthy, happy and creative 2013.
You will see that this letter to you is very short. Like everyone else our funding has run out and although we hope to have a grant in the coming months, we cannot risk going ahead and having no funding for the Lunch!
Our Christmas lunch was at the Greenlawns Hotel in Falmouth and was an enormous success. As lunch was about to be served, twenty-five Cousin Jacks burst into the room, decked in Father Christmas hats, and roared into a rendering of Trelawney – the signal that turkey was on its way.
As always the Greenlawns fed us royally and we had a welcome surprise when one of our Members donated wine for us and punch for the boys. The feasting over, the Cousin Jacks entertained us to lively singing and dancing routines – special mention must be made of “Mother Christmas”. Such fun!
Our thanks must go to their musical director, Russell Pascoe, from Richard Lander School who introduced us to such a lively bunch of boys who could not only perform to the highest standards but interacted brilliantly with everyone around them. Thank you Cousin Jacks.

NEXT MEETING
The next meeting of the Forum is at THE MERCHANT HOUSE HOTEL(the old Carlton Hotel) on Thursday, 7th February 2013 arriving at 12 noon and finishing approximately 3.00pm.
Our speakers are a double act with Angela Williams from Hearing Loss Cornwall and Mervyn Thomas a wizard at finding ways to improve our hearing. Not to be missed for most of us!
AGE AND AMBITION – MOVING FORWARD – LOOKING BACK
Not too many of us showed up at the Princess Pavilion for the Celebrating Age and Ambition Tea Party at the end of November which was a bit disappointing – when I say not too many, I think Judith was the only one from the Forum!
The Moving Forward Looking Back celebration of the culmination of the year- long project facilitated by Arts for Health and supported by the Baring Foundation and Feast** took place on Friday and Saturday 11/12 January.
The creative opportunities of writing, visual arts and the especially created “Inner Ground Dance Company” all came together in the one place. What a triumph for Caroline Schanche and her team – it was inspirational. It would be great if this could be more than a one-year project and develop into something even bigger and better.
**FEAST in addition to being a funding body, works together with partner organisations to offer new creative ways of tackling some of the social, economic or environmental issues facing Cornwall.
OUR RIGHTS, OUR VOICES
A reminder that our Forum is one of 8 Forums chosen to take part in and host the 3-year project concerning Human Rights for the elderly. We were fortunate also to attract people from outside the Forum who have expertise upon which we can draw. The first day of training took place on 26 November and we got off to a good start.
MEN’S SHEDS
Like the shed at the bottom of the garden where a man may retire to make or mend items Men’s Sheds are usually permanent bases for more people with shared tools, facilities and materials. The Men’s Shed network is a growing movement in this country that brings older men together. The nearest Men’s Shed at present is in Exeter - perhaps there is scope to start a Cornish Men’s Shed?
For a comprehensive guide to the Men’s Shed network see www.menssheds.org.uk or call 07757024749 for further details.
EAST POOL MINE
The visitor services officer is looking for volunteers to help out for the 2013 season in their Engine Houses and the visitor reception area.
It sounds great fun and if you would like to know more about joining their friendly team you can contact Harriet Eaton on 01209 210900 or emailHarriet.Eaton@nationaltrust.org.uk
