Godolphin Cross, in Cornish, Krows Hirlan, is a village in the civil parish of Breage near Helston.
Godolphin Cross stands on part of a geological formation known as the Tregonning-Godolphin Granite, a plateau of high ground which is one of five granite batholiths in Cornwall.
Godolphin Hill lies just west of the village. It stands at 531 ft ( 162 metres).
Godolphin House and Estate is located close to the village. It is owned by the National Trust. The whole estate and its surrounding woodlands are open to the public.
The former Church of St John the Baptist, designed by James Piers St Aubyn and built in 1849-50 is no longer used. In the churchyard is a Cornish cross, moved there in the late 1800s when it was found being used as a gatepost on the Chytodden estate.
Godolphin Cross has a rather unusual link with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Emir of Dubai. Villagers contacted him regarding the connection between Francis Godolphin, 2nd Earl of Godolphin and his own horse racing empire. Francis Godolphin had been responsible for breeding Arabian horses in 1724 from which most thoroughbreds are now descended.
As a result, in 2017, the Emir made a gift to the village which saved their village hall, formerly the Methodist Chapel and school room.
