Look out Gibraltar here comes the Cornish Banger Rally.

St Austell     Motor Sports & Rallies

After two year’s recuperation, on Sunday 30th September Cornwall will again see 180 teams and their decorated cars leave St Austell for an epic fundraising Rally across Cornwall, Spain, Portugal & Gibraltar.

St Austell Round Table Banger Rally Challenge, ‘Gib or Bust’ the 7th rally, will leave the Cornwall Hotel at lunchtime, they will then travel to Gibraltar over five days. Once complete the Rally will also visit Morocco for their notorious rest day party, before heading home. Over 180 cars have now entered to take part in this fantastic Cornish charity event.

Over the last six years the Rally has visited many European destinations such as Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Rome, Pula Croatia, Salo in Italy and 2016 final destination Vegas, Spain. So far in its history the Rally has facilitated the fundraising of an unbelievable £800,000 for local and national charities during its short history. It is now established as a significant and highly popular Cornish charity event. The Rally has set its sights on this year’s fundraising target of £200,000 meaning it will have then achieved a staggering £1 Million since its launch in 2011.

The Charities that will benefit from this year’s Rally are:

Children’s Hospice South West
Turn to Starboard
Merlin MS Centre
Marie Curie
Cornwall Air Ambulance
Cornwall Hospice Care

The Rally rules for cars, they to have a value of no more than £500-£600. It has become traditional for teams to decorate their vehicles and travel in fancy dress along the journey. Local businesses are invited to sponsor prizes for best car, fancy dress etc. There are daily challenge trials for competitors to win additional donations and prizes along the way. Each team will need to try to raise at least £1500 in sponsorship for the rally to meet its impressive target.

The organisers also want to turn the leaving event into a Carnival atmosphere as the cars drive along the A390 through St Austell, Holmbush, Par, St Blazey, Lostwithiel and across Cornwall via the A38 to meet the ferry in Plymouth, and also are looking for local spectators and fundraisers along the route from St Austell to Plymouth.

The leaving event takes place on Sunday 30th September
11am – 2.00pm
