Blisland is a parish on Bodmin Moor and an idyllic moorland village with an unusual feature for a Cornish village, a village green. Although, during our visit during late November 2005, it was covered in snow, most unusual for this season in Cornwall.

Many interesting features can be found in or around Blisland and it is an excellent place for walking.

Blisland Parish Church

The parish church is dedicated to SS Protus and Hyacinth. Its architecture contains some original Norman features. It has 2 fonts, one of which is Norman and the other from the 1400s. The beautifully ornamented screen is a major feature of the church, as too are the buttressed piers which lean at an astounding angle. The interior bears the Royal Arms of James I dating from 1604.

Blisland in History

The Stripple Stones, a circle henge dating from the Neolithic period, some 4,500 years ago, stands on Hawk's Tor near Blisland. Enclosed within the ditch and bank is a stone circle - 14 stones remain although only 4 are still standing. Henges are believed to have been ceremonial monuments. The entrance to the Stripple Stones Henge faces west.

The Jubilee Rock, a block of granite, stands a mile north of the village. In 1809 Lieutenant John Rogers carved and painted the Royal Coat of Arms, Brittania and other Arms on the granite in honour of the George III's 50th anniversary. Remains of the inscriptions can still be seen.
