The First and Last Trail begins at Cornwall's rugged south western land mark, Land's End, passing through the beautiful countryside of West Penwith hugging the south coast before crossing the narrow isthmus of land between Cornwall's south and north coasts to end at Hayle.
In Cornish the trail is known as An Hens Kensa Ha Dewetha.
The trail route goes east through quiet country lanes passing Sennen, St Buryan, Lamorna, Mousehole and Newlyn. There are numerous archaeological sites within easy reach of the trail including the Merry Maidens Stone Circle and many ancient Cornish crosses, particularly in St Buryan parish.
At Penzance the trail goes off road following the coastline from Penzance Station to Marazion and providing fantastic views of Mount's Bay and the castle on St Michael's Mount.
At Marazion the trail leaves the south coast to follow minor roads passing through St Erth and following the course of the river to Hayle on the north coast.
The trail route is relatively level for considerable distances, particularly between Mousehole and Marazion.
Trail length: 39.6km - 25 miles.
