This walk is based on the Pendower Beach to Portloe section of the Cornwall Coast Path and is intended for walkers who want to enjoy this section of the path and make it a circular walk.
Follow the route of the coast path walk to Portloe. After enjoying a break in Portloe you can return to your start point at Pendower Beach by firstly retracing your steps up the coast path towards The Jacka. After a short distance leave the coastal footpath and take a right turn onto a public footpath.
When you reach the next junction on the path, ignore the right turn and continue straight on.
On reaching the lane, ignore the lane that goes off to the right and take towards Camels Farm. As you are walking past the farm the lane bears to the left. Just after the farm buildings look for the public footpath on the left and take it to cross fields to another quiet lane. While you are on the path through the fields a path will cross it. Ignore the left and right turns and continue straight on.
On reaching the lane, ignore the first right and first left turns and continue along the lane past Tregamenna Manor Farm. When you reach a T junction on the lane, turn right and after a very short distance on a sharp left hand bend a public footpath leaves the lane. Take this path and you will soon see Carne Beacon, an ancient tumulus. Continue along the path until it meets another lane on the outskirts of Veryan village.
You then have two options, you can turn right and walk to the crossroads in Veryan, where you take a left to follow a lane to Melinsey. Just after the buildings at Melinsey there is a public footpath on your left. Take the footpath to walk down the valley to Pendower Beach and the car parking area.
If you select option two, when the path past Carne Beacon joins the lane, ignore the right turn for Veryan and take the left to take you down the lane towards the sea. Ignore the left turn and walk down the lane passing the Ringarounds on your left.
When you reach the junction near Gwendra take a right and walk the short distance back to Pendower Beach.
