St Michael Caerhays is a pretty parish on the south coast of Cornwall between Truro and St Austell.
The parish church has some remains of its Norman cruciform origins. The north doorway has a Norman tympanum. There are a number of monuments to the Trevanion family from the 18th and 19th centuries. The church was restored by J.P. St Aubyn. The church is dedicated to St Michael the Archangel.
The vicar of St Michael Caerhays was responsible for the erection of the day mark which stands on Dodman Point, a huge granite cross erected in 1896 which serves as a warning to passing ships.
Caerhays Castle stands in its own grounds overlooking the beach and is a private residence not open to the public. The picturesque castle style mansion was built in 1808 for the Trevanion family by John Nash. Its gardens are famous for the rhododendrons.
