Pearce ready for final surfing showdown at BPSA Newquay
Headworx rider and current BPSA tour leader Reubin Pearce is ready to do battle in the waves with his nearest rival Mark Harris in the final event of the British pro surfing tour in Newquay this weekend.
The 23-year-old, based in Newquay, has had a fantastic season so far, with three BPSA event wins already under his belt. All Pearce needs is to make the semis in Newquay and the coveted BPSA title will be his.
“I am thoroughly looking forward to the final event and the fact that it is in my home base of Newquay should make it even better. I am in a great position so I am just hoping I can continue my recent form. I really want to repay the faith my sponsors Headworx have placed in me, and win the title I have been working so hard for all season.” said Reubin.
“Winning the BPSA tour would mean a lot to me, it has been my main goal for the last three years and having finished fourth last year it would be great to come out on top against Britain’s top surfers.” he added.
The tour was set to head to North Yorkshire last weekend but due to small conditions the North East Open was cancelled, leaving England’s surfing capital of Newquay to play host to the final chapter on the tour.
Pearce is 600 points clear of nearest rival – Newquay local Mark ‘Egor’ Harris - and with 2000 points up for grabs in the eighth and last event of the season, it makes for an exciting finish to an already exhilarating season.
The Headworx rider is dedicated to his surfing and is constantly striving to improve. He has been travelling the world this year competing on the WQS tour to help him progress even further in the sport.
It is this committed attitude that won him a sponsorship deal earlier in the year with core surf brand Headworx, with whom Reubin has become a leading ambassador for their ‘Riders Choice’ philosophy.
“We chose to sponsor Reubin not only because he is one of the most talented surfers in the UK but also because he shares the brand’s ethos of individuality and passion in his approach to both his surfing and his life,” explained Headworx Team Manager Ben Byfield. “Everyone at Headworx is gunning for Reubs in Newquay this weekend, and we really hope he can come away with the BPSA title that he has worked so hard for. Reubin is really part of the Headworx team and we wish him the very best of luck.”
With tough conditions predicted the battle between Pearce and Egor will be a battle worth watching and hopefully the Headworx surfer will have the final say in a season that has already been a huge success for the young star.
