Matt Capel eyes BPSA Title

HEADWORX YOUNG GUN MATT CAPEL EYES BPSA TITLE ON UK RETURN

With the start of the BPSA UK tour in North Devon on Saturday, Britain’s top pro surfers are heading back from overseas - and Headworx welcomes back local challenger and young charger Matt Capel.

The 20-year-old from Newton Abbot, Devon made a big impression on the UK surf scene last year with his super-fast, fluid style - taking out many of the established stars on his way to some impressive podium finishes. He is already being tipped as a potential winner of this year’s tour, and is widely regarded as Britain’s top pro junior.

Matt returns from three months training at Narrabeen in Australia where he has been trading waves with some of the world’s top pros. North Narrabeen is a hardcore wave, and he has only just recovered from an arm injury sustained in big surf there which left him with 10 stitches and two weeks confined to dry land.

Now back on British soil, Matt’s fortunes have taken a turn for the better, as he has already signed for two more years endorsements with surf brand Headworx and is looking forward to a another successful season with the team on the BPSA tour.

“I have been doing some serious training over the winter and I have come back stronger and even more determined. I was stoked with my results last year but this time around I will be looking to improve my consistency and take on Reubs (Reubin Pearce, BPSA Champion) and the boys at every event.” explained Matt.

The young gun is looking to continue his rise through the surfing ranks in 2006. Matt’s successes last season included a 4th place finish in the British National Championships, 2nd at the Lusty Glaze Night Surf and a Pro Junior win at the BPSA Jersey Open. Now, Matt is thirsty for British and European titles to add to his England team status.

Fellow Headworx rider, Reubin Pearce, is the current BPSA tour champion and both he and Matt will start their pursuit for the coveted title at the North Devon Open at Croyde on 15th April.
