Mawnan Smith and Mawnan are delightful villages tucked away in an idyllic rural setting between Falmouth and the estuary of the Helford River.
The name derives from a blacksmiths workshop which was located in the middle of the parish.
There are excellent walks in the area with magnificent views either seaward towards Falmouth or along the banks of the Helford towards Durgan and Helford Passage.
The church is dedicated to Saint Maunanus and Saint Stephen and stands within a 'round' or Celtic 'lan' - Cornish for 'sacred enclosure'. The view over the Helford River is outstanding and the church grounds are a popular place for visitors and residents to sit and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
