Hayle Beaches

Hayle has over 3 miles of golden sands with long sandy beaches stretching from Phillack on the mouth of the River Hayle to Upton Towans and towards Gwithian, provide a perfect spot for relaxing and enjoying the magnificent panoramic views towards Godrevy lighhouse and St Ives. At low tide the beach extends all the way from Hayle to Godrevy. On the other side of the Hayle estuary is another stretch of fine golden sand - Porth Kidney Sands.

This long beach backed by sand dunes has sections each with its own name and lifeguard service.

  • Upton Towans Beach

    Upton Towans are accessed from the Hayle to Portreath road (B3301).

    Upton Towans beach is dog friendly with dogs allowed on the beach all year round.

  • Beach View

    The long sandy beach adjacent to Mexico Towans.

  • Mexico Towans

    Mexico Towans are nearer to Hayle and are accessed via Phillack. RNLI Lifeguards are on duty at Mexico Towans beach from mid May to around the 20th of September. For more information about the lifeguard service - RNLI Area support centre Tel: 01736 753567 or email lifeguards@rnli.org.uk

    Mexico Towans beach is dog friendly with dogs allowed on the beach all year round.

  • Riviere Towans

    Riviere Towans beach is dog friendly with dogs allowed on the beach all year round.

  • Hayle Towans

    Hayle Towans is the closest section of the beach to Hayle. The Towans can be accessed by footpath across the small bridge in Hayle or via Phillack.

    Hayle Towans from the Hayle River to Black Cliffs has a dog ban between Easter and 1st October and is dog friendly between October and Easter.

  • Porthkidney Sands

    Porth Kidney beach between Hayle and Carbis Bay is another large, popular, sandy beach backed by dunes and cliffs. It is also popular with Hang Gliders and Para Gliders. Porthkidney beach is dog friendly with dogs allowed on the beach all year round.

    Access to the beach is via a footpath from St Uny Church at Lelant, crossing the golf course and passing under the St Erth to St Ives branchline.

    In the beautiful living churchyard across the footpath from the church, bluebells, cowslips and primroses blanket the ground in spring.

    The St Uny Heritage Centre is located in the churchyard and is a great place to stop for tea, coffee and homemade cakes. The Centre also offers a free exhibition of local history and access to reference books about the area.

    Some books of local interest are for sale and there are a range of donated novels and non fiction books to purchase so if you're off to Porthkidney Beach to relax on the sands and enjoy the stunning view of the Hayle River, Hayle Towans, Godrevy and St Ives, and you want to buy something to read then why not drop in.

    St Uny Heritage Centre opens in the spring through to October, on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 11am and 4pm.
