St Mawes is a charming waterside town overlooking the Carrick Roads and Falmouth.
A highly popular destination for yachting because of the safe anchorage it provides and its stunning location.
The town is named after the patron of its chapel, the Celtic Saint Maudez, who is believed to have originated from Ireland.
A holy well dedicated to St Mawes is still in existence, now housed in a stone building which dates back over 600 years.
St Mawes has an interesting history. Becoming a Borough in 1562 it was able to send two members to Parliament - quite extraordinary when the whole of Cornwall was represented by only 44 MP's.
A pedestrian ferry operates between St Mawes and Falmouth.
Visiting yachts can contact the Harbourmaster (Tel: +44 (0) 1326 270553) to arrange moorings.
